The annual number of deaths from CVD in India is projected to rise from 2.26 million (1990) to 4.77 million (2020) (1). Coronary heart disease prevalence rates in India have been estimated over the past several decades and have ranged from 1.6% to 7.4% in rural populations and from 1% to 13.2% in urban populations.

Over 75% of CVD deaths take place in low- and middle-income countries where raised blood pressure happens to be amongst the most important risk factors for CVDs. In 2016 India reported 63% of total deaths due to NCDs, of which 27% were attributed to CVDs. CVDs also account for 45% of deaths in the 40-69 year age group.

  1. Cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) are the leading cause of death globally.
  2.  An estimated 17.9 million people died from CVDs in 2019, representing 32% of all global                                                                                deaths Of these deaths, 85% were due to heart attack and stroke.
  3.   Over three-quarters of CVD deaths take place in low- and middle-income countries.
  4.   Out of the 17 million premature deaths (under the age of 70) due to noncommunicable diseases                                                                     in 2019, 38% were caused by CVDs
  5.   Most cardiovascular diseases can be prevented by addressing behavioral risk factors such as                                                                             tobacco use, unhealthy diet and obesity, physical inactivity, and harmful use of alcohol.
  6.   It is important to detect cardiovascular disease as early as possible so that management                                                                                     with counseling and medicines can begin.

Factors Affecting Young Adult’s Hearts-: Why Heart attack is common in young adults in India

Hypertension-: Nowadays high blood pressure is common among youth. Because young adults these days do not manage their diet, regular activities, and stress levels properly, all this has a bad effect on their heart (fat accumulates in blood vessels), due to which hypertension is being found in today’s young generation.

Smoking-: Smoking is common in young adults. Even if someone is not a direct smoker, indirect smoking can also cause heart problems.

Due to the chemicals present in smoke, the heart and blood vessels of the heart start getting damaged. Due to this, the heart is not working properly.

Hypercholesterolaemia-: Due to fast food and a sedentary lifestyle, cholesterol levels are found to be much higher than normal in young adults. Process food is the most important factor for the high cholesterol level. Because due to processed food, a lot of calories get stored in the body in a short time.

The second most important is a sedentary lifestyle, due to which body fat increases and due to the accumulation of fat in blood vessels, blood flow reduces and there is a risk of heart attack.

Stress level-: Due to work stress, young adults are not able to take care of their physical health. Therefore heart problems are common among young adults.
